Avoidance. It makes sense to want to avoid things that are distressing. But in respect of trauma and PTSD it is one of the worst things to do.
Trauma and PTSD can often make you think you are going mad, or losing your mind. The intrusive memories and powerful physical sensations can overpower you. This, however, it true. You are not the problem but you have a problem. Once you can really believe that things can start to turn around for you.
